The Tour of the Moon was made famous in the 1980’s Coors Classic and later in the cycling movie American Flyers. Its legacy continues as one of the premier road cycling events in the western United States.

The National Forest Service caps our participation at 2,200, and we sell out every year, so sign up now to get your spot! A portion of your registration fee goes to support One Riverfront and Bicycle Colorado.

HARVEST MOON POST-RIDE CELEBRATION AND EXPO

Stick around after your ride for the Harvest Moon Celebration, complete with an expo, lunch, live entertainment and beer garden. Check out the latest cycling gear, accessories and nutrition products. You’ll find great bargains on apparel, equipment and more. Inform your friends and family that the expo is also open during the ride itself, so while you are on the course, they can enjoy the exhibits.

Lunch is provided to all Icon Tour of the Moon participants. Your wristband will act as your meal voucher.

Tickets to the lunch will also be available for friends and family for $20 each.  You may purchase them at the event or when you register online.

62-MILE ROAD

All cyclists will start and finish at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction. The ride will begin with a spectacular trek through the Colorado National Monument. After exiting the Monument, riders may elect to tackle a metric century through the beautiful farm country and surrounding areas of Fruita or opt for the classic 41-mile loop back to GJ.

LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED

The Colorado National Monument requires all cyclists (regardless of whether they are in an organized event or on their own) to have a white light that is visible from a distance of at least 500 feet to the front and a red light that is visible from at least 200 feet to the rear. The Monument has three tunnels, bored through solid rock, that are not lit, thus the reason for the safety requirement. All cyclists and support vehicles are required to use the lights in the three tunnels. You may turn them off once you’ve exited, but for your safety we advise that you leave them on the duration of the ride.

RIDE START TIME

This is NOT a race, you may start your ride between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. ALL riders MUST be on the road by 8:30 a.m. and have a front and rear light in order to ride through the Monument (EAST ENTRANCE) .

AID STATIONS

There will be three to four aid stations on the course. Each aid station will be stocked with water, energy drink, nutrition bars/snacks, fruit, bagels, trail mix, etc. Please note, it is possible that each aid stations may not be stocked with all the same items. Aid Station details – mileage, location and hours of operation – will be shared in the near future.

WRISTBAND/LIGHT CHECK

Staff will be at the east entrance of the Monument to check if you have a wristband and lights; both are required to enter and continue your ride per our permit stipulations with the National Park Service. Please make them visible to staff and park employees and know that this “check point” is not an aid station and will not have refreshments or toilets.  The entrance needs to remain free of congestion so not to inconvenience the Monument’s daily visitors.

SUPPORT

Sag wagons will rove the course with additional water and supplies, while providing roadside assistance to those experiencing mechanical problems or those who become too fatigued to finish. Please be prepared however to handle your own flats and minor repairs.  Road Marshals, Colorado State Patrol and Rapid Response will be on hand to help make your ride safe and enjoyable.
